Water Texture

In this article I’ll show you how to make a water texture using filters only.

Step 1.
Create a new 250X250 pixels document with the white background. Press “D” to resert the colours.

Step 2.
Apply Filter > Render > Clouds and then apply Filter > Sketch > Chrome with the following settings: Detail->5, Smoothness->7.


Step 3.
Apply Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation with the following settings: Colorize - ON, Hue->200, Saturation->80, Lightness->+20.

Step 4.
Apply Filter > Distort > Wave and use the following settings:

Step 5.
Apply Filter > Distort > Twirl (Angle->75 degrees). And that’s it.

Night Sky Texture

In this article I’ll show you how to make a night sky.

Step 1.
Create a new 800X600 pixels document with the black background. Press “D”. Apply Filter > Render > Difference Clouds.

Step 2.
Apply Filter > Texture > Craquelure and use the following settings: Crack Spacing->4, Crack Depth->10, Crack Brightness-> 10.

Step 3.
Apply Image > Adjust > Brightness/Contrast with the following settings: Brightness->-73, Contrast->48. And that’s it.

Khaki Colour Texture

In this article I’ll show you how to make khaki colour texture.

Step 1.
Create a new 1024X1024 (or other size divizible by 64) pixels document. Press “D” and apply Filter > Render > Clouds.

Step 2.
Apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with Radius->20 pixels (or less for a smaller size).

Step 3.
Apply Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast with the following settings: Brightness->+5; Contrast->+100. And then apply Filter > Blur > Blur More.

Step 4.
Duplicate this layer (press the right mouse button and apply Duplicate Layer). Apply Edit > Transform > Rotate 90 CW. Set the blending mode for the layer as “Multiply” and set the Opacity->50%. Press Ctrl+E.

Step 5.
Now, it is the time for painting our texture into different green colours. Use the Magic Wand Tool for drawing out an area and then press SHIFT+F5 to fill it in different green colours.

Step 6.
You can use this texture as background on your Webpage. You can also make it as the pattern (press CTRL+A and apply Edit > Define Pattern) and fill any objects of this texture (Edit > Fill > Pattern). And that’s it.

Original Background

In this article I’ll tell you how to make an unusual background.

Step 1.
Create a new 450X350 pixels document (Content: “White”).
Choose the Paint Bucket Tool and set the colour: #016DAE.

Step 2.
Choose the Gradient Tool (Angle Gradient), set colours you wish and employ it.

Step 3.
Apply Filter > Render > Lens Flare with the following settings: Brightness->103; Lens Type->105mm Prime.

Step 4.
Apply Filter > Stylize > Extrude with the following settings:

Step 5.
Apply Image > Adjustments > Curves (or press Ctrl+M) and try to make the line like shown in the following picture:

Step 6.
Duplicate your layer (apply Layer > Duplikate Layer…) and then press Ctrl+I to inver the image.

Step 7.
Apply Filter > Sketch > Chrome with the following settings: Detail->1; Smoothness->2.

Step 8.
Set the blending mode “Linear Light” for the new layer. And that’s it.

Cell Texture

In this photoshop tutorial I’ll tell you how to create an unusual effect: yeast-like cells (a view through the microscope).

Step 1.
Create a new 300X300 pixels document with the black background. Choose the Gradient Tool (Radial Gradient) and set “Lighten” of the blend mode and try to draw cells like the image below:

Step 2.
Apply Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap and use the following settings: Highlight Strength -> 15; Detail -> 8; Smoothness -> 10.

Step 3.
Apply Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation with the following settings: (colorize-on); Hue->41; Saturation->60; Lightness-> -25.

Step 4.
Apply Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap and use the following settings: Highlight Strength -> 8; Detail -> 4; Smoothness -> 5. And that’s it.
